Tear Fund This is one of the organisations that Breadsall Parish Church supports on a regular basis. One of the ways in which we support Tear Fund is to sponsor the health, education and Christian development of a child. Jean Denelson Picture of Jean Denelson We support Jean through Hatte Grand Mont School, north of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. His birthday is on 19th September 1992. Jean lives at home with his parents and two sisters. Gathering firewood, fetching water and teaching others are his household duties. His father is a farmer and his mother sells goods in the market. Jean enjoys hiking, singing, drawing and playing football. He attends Sunday school, vacation bible school and daily Bible studies. He also attends a day school where his favourite subject is poetry. Jean is a healthy, active child and, with our support, he will have new opportunities for physical, mental and spiritual growth. Jean lives in a farming community in Haiti. Men and women often bring their produce from their small garden plots to sell in the market. The majority of people are unemployed. Families tend to be large and live in small, overcrowded, houses. About 40% of the children in this community complete elementary school. Of these children, perhaps 20% will be able to continue with high school. There are no universities and not enough vocational training centres to meet the needs of young people. Due to the poor economic situation, many children have recurring health problems. Malnutrition, typhoid, malaria and diarrhoeal diseases are common. Poor sanitation and the lack of clean water contribute greatly to an unhealthy environment. Our support provides Jean with educational assistance, basic health care, social activities and spiritual training. Although most Haitians practice Roman Catholicism, our child attends an evangelical church. We are asked to pray for Jean, remembering in particular the need for: * Encouragement for children to remain in school. *Better nutrition and health care in the community *Families to accept the Gospel Unfortunately, the second child that was sponsored has moved away. She had received several years of education, partially funded by our sponsorship. We wish her a happy and fulfilling life in her new home. God bless you, Taiba.
